This group on Facebook has been leading the charge to have our Prescription Plan benefits reinstated. As you may well know, the Maryland Legislature voted in 2011 to have our prescription plan benefits stopped when a retiree turns 65 and is eligible for Medicare Part D. The benefit that you paid for and worked for your entire career will be null and void at that time. The WE Matter group, led by Mr. Ken Fitch, has successfully sued the State and been granted an injunction to keep this from going into effect as scheduled on January 1, 2019. This ongoing legal battle is filing for "Class" status to ensure that ALL state retirees will be captured under any ruling to reinstate the benefits. Without "Class" status, the State can limit any reinstatement to just those four people listed in the original suit. To assist the legal team in obtaining this status, send an email to the “MDRetireesRX” email posted below and request the Class Action form. Also, PLEASE join the WE Matter group on Facebook to show your support and to stay up to date on meetings and information related to the fight. A link to the WE Matter Group is in the "Links" section this website. If you aren't on Facebook, you can sign up for their email list which also posts the updates and information. Send an email to:
The fight for your rights started by Mr. Fitch and his group has become a two phase plan. The injunction granted now allows phase two to begin. When the General Assembly comes into session in January, Bills will be introduced to rescind the injustice done to us as retirees and employees back in 2011. It is imperative that people reach out to all Legislators involved in this process and let them know that they support the reinstatement of the Maryland Employees' Prescription benefits! To that end, a letter has been created by the Attorneys handling the case. Please send an email to the “MDRetireeRX“ email address listed herein to get your copy of this letter. Instructions for completion and submission of the letter can be obtained through the email.
Also through the work of Ken Fitch, the "United We Matter" corporation has been established. This is an organization created to watch out for your pensions and retiree benefits as Maryland State public sector employees. I would strongly suggest that you go to their website and sign up for membership. It's $30 a year and all money goes towards costs for continuing their work. www.unitedwematter.com
