Posted as a reminder of the Lodge's policy on meetings and weather advisories:
If Baltimore County Schools or Government offices are closed due to weather, FOP 76 will NOT have their scheduled meeting.
Any scheduled parties or events will be held at the discretion of the Lounge Manager and General Manager. Thank you for your understanding.
To all active members of FOP 76,
Due to increases in costs associated with running the Lodge, we have had to institute an increase in active member dues. The active member dues at FOP 76 have stayed the same for almost twenty years; unfortunately, the cost of running the lodge has vastly increased. Both the State and Grand Lodge per capita taxes have increased in just this last year, along with property taxes and licensing fees. These increases have made the current dues level unsustainable. Effective immediately, the active member dues will go from $11 bi-weekly, to $13 bi-weekly. Even at this rate, the legal plan benefit for active Troopers alone far outweighs the cost.
I can assure you that this increase was not taken lightly. It was voted on and accepted at the June membership meeting, and was pursuant to a commensurate increase in the Associate and Retiree dues. We regret any inconvenience that this may cause. Please contact us if you have any questions. Lodge@troopersfop76.org
Thanks to Ken Fitch, and his tireless work with United We Matter, a new bill has been introduced in the 2021 Maryland Legislature pertaining to the Prescription Drug Benefits stolen from Maryland State Employees. From Ken:
"HB1335. I am happy to tell you that my efforts have hit paydirt. Yup we have a bill in the House of Delegates to reinstate our prescription drug coverage. It was submitted by Delegate Carl Jackson (Baltimore County) and it has a co-sponsor in the Senate, Senator Michael Jackson (PG County, Calvert and Charles County)! I am thrilled that my hard work may yet lead to a change in the law for all State Retirees who will be affected. The bill is in the House Rules and Executive Nominations Committee.
NOW IS THE TIME TO FLOOD THEIR OFFICES WITH PHONE CALLS! Call and tell them that you support HB1335! We have to get it out of this committee to get any traction. CALL! CALL! CALL!
United We Matter
I will post the names and numbers of the members of this committee. Don’t let all this hard work be in vain. If you want to keep this benefit- you must call! Remember that WE MATTER and United we are a formidable force!"
In the downloads section you will find the bill and a list of contact information for the House Rules and Executive Nominations Committee. Below is a link to the Legiscan page for more information on the process.
This group on Facebook has been leading the charge to have our Prescription Plan benefits reinstated. As you may well know, the Maryland Legislature voted in 2011 to have our prescription plan benefits stopped when a retiree turns 65 and is eligible for Medicare Part D. The benefit that you paid for and worked for your entire career will be null and void at that time. The WE Matter group, led by Mr. Ken Fitch, has successfully sued the State and been granted an injunction to keep this from going into effect as scheduled on January 1, 2019. This ongoing legal battle is filing for "Class" status to ensure that ALL state retirees will be captured under any ruling to reinstate the benefits. Without "Class" status, the State can limit any reinstatement to just those four people listed in the original suit. To assist the legal team in obtaining this status, send an email to the “MDRetireesRX” email posted below and request the Class Action form. Also, PLEASE join the WE Matter group on Facebook to show your support and to stay up to date on meetings and information related to the fight. A link to the WE Matter Group is in the "Links" section this website. If you aren't on Facebook, you can sign up for their email list which also posts the updates and information. Send an email to:
The fight for your rights started by Mr. Fitch and his group has become a two phase plan. The injunction granted now allows phase two to begin. When the General Assembly comes into session in January, Bills will be introduced to rescind the injustice done to us as retirees and employees back in 2011. It is imperative that people reach out to all Legislators involved in this process and let them know that they support the reinstatement of the Maryland Employees' Prescription benefits! To that end, a letter has been created by the Attorneys handling the case. Please send an email to the “MDRetireeRX“ email address listed herein to get your copy of this letter. Instructions for completion and submission of the letter can be obtained through the email.
Also through the work of Ken Fitch, the "United We Matter" corporation has been established. This is an organization created to watch out for your pensions and retiree benefits as Maryland State public sector employees. I would strongly suggest that you go to their website and sign up for membership. It's $20 a year and all money goes towards costs for continuing their work. www.unitedwematter.com
